Employers Less Likely To Drop Coverage Than You Might Think – NPR

When it comes to businesses providing health coverage for employees, there’s a mad dash for the exits, right?

Maybe not, according to a recent survey of more than 1,300 U.S. employers of varying sizes. Consultants at Oliver Wyman’s health practice wondered how employers are weighing the increasing costs of providing health insurance and the potential exit strategy paths available under the federal health law (if it survives the Supreme Court).

Bottom line: only 8 percent of the employers surveyed have plans to drop coverage altogether. But half of the companies surveyed do plan to make big changes to the coverage they offer.

Old People Smell Different, Not Worse – NPR

If you’ve ever spent time where the elderly congregate, you may have wondered: Do old people smell different?

Well, it’s not just you. Old and young people do give off distinctive odors, according to a study just published online in the journal PLoS ONE. Researchers from the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia and Sweden’s Karolinska Institute found that people can reliably distinguish the body odor of elderly people from a whiff of the young or middle-aged.

But contrary to the stereotype, the characteristic odor of the elderly is actually pretty neutral. And it’s a lot more pleasant than the body odor coming from younger folks — especially the guys.

THE CIEN AMIGOS–IME BECAS SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Cien Amigos civic group, the Mexican Cultural Center of Northern California, and the Consulate General of Mexico in Sacramento, with the support of the Institute for Mexicans Abroad (IME), are pleased to announce the Cien Amigos–IME Becas Scholarship Fund to encourage the educational success of Mexican origin and Latino students in California.

The Cien Amigos–IME Becas Scholarship Committee will accept applications for 2012 College Scholarships and High School Grants beginning April 2nd 2012.  Deadline for applications is May 15th, 2012.
